
Lady Starlight, a performance artist, met Gaga at this period. Gaga was signed to Streamline Records by Vince Herbert in 2007, following a performance during the Lollapalooza Festival 2007. Gaga was an apprentice songwriter during an experience with Famous Music Publishing. This business was later purchased and rebranded as Sony/ATV Music Publishing. She was later hired to write songs in support of Britney Spears and her label mates New Kids on the Block and Fergie. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. The debut album of Gaga's in 2008 The Fame received only a little media reception. Gaga went on tour across Europe as well as in the US to promote her album. But it was not until the 2009 smash 'Just Dance that mainstream attention was paid to her music. Gaga had a labral tear in her right hip that she was nursing for several weeks with the hoping that she'd be able to continue the tour. Following her show in Toronto Gaga became unable to walk and was in extreme pain. She was admitted to the hospital and her tour was canceled.
