Buffett said he'd give more than 80 percent to charitable foundations. In 2020, he increased the number to 99 percent. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation was the primary beneficiary. It was established by Bill Gates, Microsoft founder, and his wife Melinda. They focused on health and education in the world. Bill and Buffett have been close friends since the beginning of the 1990s. Other organizations that received donations included those run by Buffett's three children and the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, named in honor of his late wife. It is focused on women's rights to reproductive health and supported college scholarships. In the year 2010, Buffett and Gates came up with the Giving Pledge. This pledge allowed other wealthy individuals to give the majority of their fortunes to charitable organizations.
